Vintage inspired Thursday ( moved to Friday)

Well we are finally here at our most sought after day of the week! So happy it's Friday!
I don't know about you but I'm ready for my weekend!
A lady in our church will be getting married in the month of March, and tomorrow we are going to a pantry shower in honor of her. The theme is to dress like a 1950's house wife. Hmm..... That shouldn't be to hard.:) ahem, I admit that's right up my alley. I think it will be fun to see what all the other ladies shows up in.:) I'll try to remember to take my camera so I can capture a few pictures.
Well what do ya know here's old prune face herself, along with the cutest little pups in the world!

We had Stella a service jacket made by Olive Me, now I can take her in the store with me! Yes I'm rather an odd Duck.:)

And last but not least, my oldest one with the amazing blue eyes.

My thoughts on common courtesy ( also a few of my friends opinions on the subject )

I have been meaning to do this post for a while. I have been pondering this for some time.
In my journey through this life so far, I have met many people, people from all walks of life, there are the good , the bad, and the not so nice ones. I myself, can identify with all three. For you see, I have been all of the above at some point in my life. Their have been things that I've done and said ( probably saying things I regret mostly more than actual things I've done). I strive daily to be a better person, I am not foolish enough to know that I cannot do this alone. Without God ,friends I am nothing. I do believe God allows us to have friends  to " help" and "encourage " those around us.
My goal is to be a more positive person. In truth, I'm really not. I tend to be more on the negative Nelly side. Perhaps it's the way I'm made? I don't know.... I'm just trying my bestest and hardest to change that. I don't like to be judged, so I try not judge others. Sometimes that's hard NOT to do especially when living in a world where good is becoming bad and bad is becoming good. Sometimes it gets rather confusing trying to make sense of it all.
So today I'm kind of just baring my heart to you my dear readers on some of my thoughts on common courtesy.
Courtesy is something that you do with out thinking about most the time. Acts of kindness and politeness just come naturally as breathing to some while others might struggle with doing these attributes.
To me, common courtesy is not treating those you work with, for ect. Like they are a public servant. Everyone deserves respect and should be treated like a friend. ( I'm just saying this is how I would want to be treated ).
Common courtesy is sending a thank you card when someone blessed you with a gift. Yep, I've neglected that before (especially to my closest friends) but I am thankful even if I didn't send a card.
Common courtesy is calling someone when you are expected to show up and don't. PLEASE,NO TEXTING!!! I DO NOT LIKE IT!!! To me it's so much more personable to call. So please friends do call me.
It's common courtesy to keep your germs to yourself.
It's common courtesy to look the person you are talking to in the eye and smile even when you don't feel like it.
It's common courtesy to apologize even when you aren't guilty of committing the crime.saying I'm sorry and mean it when you say it.
Common courtesy is listening to others and not cut them off in the middle of a sentence or interrupt while the other person is talking. ( oops I'm so guilty of this)!
Common courtesy is saying " Thank You"' for inviting me to your house when someone invites you to their home. That's a privilege and let your host know you are grateful for the invite.
It is common courtesy to offer to help clean the kitchen after a meal when in invited to someone else home for a meal.
It is common courtesy to say "nice things"to people and live by the words of"if you don't have something nice to say, don't say nothing at all.Sometimes one forgets how one must seem to other people and take things for granted.
Common courtesy is returning phone calls and emails.
What is so admirable about inoffensiveness,I never shall know. I know some people don't give a care what people think about them, but I do.....
So with these words I'll say goodbye for now, One needs no particular talent to be polite
Love, Merry

Vintage Inspired Thursday

Today I am sharing Angel's pretty dress that we ordered from Modcloth. Our church banquet is right around the corner. This is the dress she chose. I'm thinking we might be adding a little more material to the hemline though as it's a little shorter than what we like.
She and I went on a camera shoot the other day down by the bayou. Hers turned out great!
I am only including one photo of me today as the others just didn't turn out right.

Day four was wrote but I am seeing it didn't publish on blogger. I don't know why I do apologize.

Five days of red ( day five oops one day late)

Eeek! I missed the most important day yesterday.
Our house was pretty much normal yesterday though.
I remember how Ben and I celebrated valentines day the first year we were married. I will confess I really was looking forward to it. I was a girl that grew up without any flowers, phone calls, or dates from  any boys. Ben was the only guy I ever dated and that didn't happen till I was 19. We dated for 6 months and were married. I promise to God above I didn't even kiss him til the day at the alter. Call me old fashioned but that's just how we were raised.
So back to my story of Valentine's Day.... In my head I always had this idea of how my love would treat me on this special day. Well he tried I will have to say that for him. I remember how I had been eyeing a certain pair of shoes and I wanted those shoes so bad. He purchased those for me and had them all wrapped up. Which to this day I have that beautiful memory ( not the shoes, I think I cleaned out my closet) of him doing that especially for me. That night we drove all over Shreveport looking for a fine place to dine. Everywhere we went, there were lines and lines of people standing out of the restraunts waiting to be next. We drove and looked for " the perfect" place for close to an hour. We were so desperate to find something to eat by this time it simply just didn't matter any more. So you know where we ate our first Valentines dinner? Pizza Hut! So from then on out I quickly decided I think next time we'll just settle for a quiet evening at home.
Last night we did go to our local BBQ place. All four of us. And it was good. I hope all of you had a nice Valentines day too!

Five days of red ( day 3)

Well we finally got something white! Slick stuff we call ice! Umm, not exactly what I had in mind. But at least it's white right?
Now it's turning into a soggy nasty mess outside.  So it's now no longer even white.:(
How are you staying warm? Do you get in the mood to cook when it turns snowy and icy outside?
I do. I made a huge pot of chicken and dumplings, lady crowder peas, ( that I had got at the Shreveport's Farmers Market last year) and a pan cornbread. I also cranked out some homemade frosted sugar cookies.
Ben's job was canceled today due to the weather. So we've been hanging out here at the house trying to stay warm. At least our power hasn't gone out! That's something that I DO not want to deal with!
    My sweet Katherine.

Five days of red (day two)

Hello!
My second post on my week of red series. Do any of you make plans for valentines day?
We usually buy a small gift for each family member and give it at breakfast or sometimes during the day. As for going out to eat, we've been there done that... Lesson learned? Restruants or too crowded! So I always opt to stay in instead of dealing with the crowd. We can go out another time when it's less stressful. Every day throughout the year " love" should be demonstrated, of course it is nice to have a special day set aside to show it.
I would love to hear your stories of how you celebrate though. Please do share!

My oldest daughter dressed in her red Hollister sweat shirt. Comfy!

Five days of red

I thought that since this week was valentines day, I would do a daily blog post on different things here at our house that's red.
Today's " red picture" is recipe I'd like to share with ya'll!
It's called fruit swirl coffee cake. It's really yummy! This is the cookbook I got it from. The cookbook is old.It was my Mama's when I was a little girl. So I guess you could say it's a family heirloom.

If you have the book the recipe is on page 33. For those of you who don't here's the recipe.

                                       FRUIT SWIRL COFFEE CAKE
                              11/2 cups of sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter softened
                                  1/2 cup shortening
                                  11/2 teaspoons baking powder
                              1 teaspoon vanilla
                               1 teaspoon almond extract
                               4 eggs
                                3 cups all purpose flour
1 can (21,0z) cherry pie filling or your choice ( I used cherry just because I wanted it to be red for today)
                               Glaze ( below)
Heat oven to 350 . Grease jelly roll pan, ( I used my pampered chef large bar pan)  beat sugar margarine, shortening, baking powder, vanilla, almond extract, and eggs in large mixing bowl on low speed, scraping bowl constantly , until blended. Beat on high speed scraping bowl occasionally 3 minutes.Stir in flour. Spread 2/3 of batter in pan spread pie filling over batter. Drop remaining batter by Tablesoonfuls ( I used a cookie scoop for this step) onto pie filling.
Bake until light brown, around 45 minutes. Drizzle with Glaze while warm. Cut cake into squares. Ummm! Good!
                              FOR THE GLAZE
Beat 1 cup powdered sugar  and 1 to 2 TBsp. Of whipping cream. Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla and 1/2 teaspoon of butter flavoring , mix until smooth. Put into sandwich bag, snipping the end drizzle over warm cake.

Tomorrow I be blogging red outfits worn by Angel and Katherine.☺️

The day my coffee pot died

Two things I cannot live without. Coffee and a coffee pot.
You who are serious coffee drinkers can so relate, yes?
This morning my coffee pot died. I watched in horror as it struggled to breath it's last breath.Thank The Lord I was here though, as it was shooting sparks and fire out everywhere.
Not exactly the most pleasant thing to watch, especially when you are depending on the caffeine to help wake you up.
So at 5:00 a.m. This morning found me heading to Walmart to get another percolator.:(
You know what happens to naughty coffee pots? Thrown away to the deep grave of the rubbish heap, that's where. So long pal, you were good to me while you lasted but you've already been replaced.... R.I.P.  my friend. And that's what happens when coffee pots croak at my house folks.

Vintage inspired Thursday

"Another Modcloth dress", you ask? Yes ma'am! See? I told you I'm addicted to the place.
This ones name is " til the gal's come home".  I wonder who comes up with these names for clothes? I've always been curious about stuff like that.....
So anyway without further adieu lets get on to the pictures.

My sweet baby girl wanted to pose in her new frock as well today. I think she's pretty cute, but don't most Mama' s feel that way about their babies?

 Have a wonderful Thursday y'all!
 Till next time,~Merry ~
